  1. A 6.5-magnitude earthquake shook Guatemala's Pacific coastline on Friday evening, causing some adobe homes to collapse in a town near the epicenter. The U.S. Geological Survey said the epicenter was 3 miles south of the small town of Pajapita, near the border with Mexico, and 168 kilometers west of Guatemala City. It had a depth of 41 miles. This earthquake compares with the other one that both were very strong and that also both were near to 9.0 of magnitude.

  11. Earthquake in Michoacan, Mexico on September 19, 1985 its magnitude was of 8.0. There were about 35,000 died people, about 30,000 were injured and more than 100,000 people were left homeless. Damage also occurred in the states of Colima, Guerrero, Mexico, Michoacan, Morelos, parts of Veracruz and in other areas of Jalisco.

Comparing the earthquake of Mexico and Guatemala I can tell that in both earthquakes died too many people, many states were destroyed, and a lot of people lost their homes.

  12. Differences between the Japan earthquake and the Guatemalan earthquake
The Japan earthquake was a 9 Mw earthquake; the Guatemalan was a 7.5 Mw earthquake. The Japan earthquake unleashed a savage tsunami, and the Guatemalan earthquake didn’t. Besides, the effects of the Japan earthquake were felt around the world and the Tsunami debris continued to wash up on North American beaches two years later. Both earthquakes left many people injured and dead.

  14. Diferences:
2010 Chile earthquake occurred off the coast of central Chile on Saturday, 27 February 2010, at 03:34 local time, having a magnitude of 8.8 on the moment magnitude scale, with intense shaking lasting for about three minutes.
The 1976 Guatemala earthquake struck on February 4, 1976 at 03:01:43 local time, it was a 7.5 Mw earthquake, centered in the Motagua Fault, about 160 km northeast of Guatemala City, Guatemala.
    Similitudes:
    1. they occur on February
    2. they made equivalent damages despite the Chile earthquake was more strong, because the people in Chile were most prepare, and in Guatemala the majority of houses were from adobe.

  15. A strong earthquake shook the border between Guatemala and Mexico on July 7, 2014 killing at least three people, including a newborn boy. The baby died when a hospital ceiling collapsed on him. Damaging dozens of buildings and triggering landslides.
Much of the damage from the 6.9-magnitude quake was reported in the Guatemalan border region of San Marcos, where it downed power lines, cracked buildings and triggered landslides that blocked roads.

  20. The earthquake of Guatemala in 1976 and the earthquake in Hawaii in 1975 were almost the same in magnitude, in Guatemala it was 7.5 and in Hawaii it was 7.2. The big difference was that in Guatemala most of the damage was because of the destuction of the houses caused by the movement of the earth, but in Hawaii because it is an island most of the damage was caused by the large tsunamis that were as high as 47 feet caused by the earthquake.

  22. The 1960 Valdivia earthquake or Great Chilean Earthquake of Sunday, 22 May 1960 was the most powerful earthquake ever recorded, rating 9.5 on the moment magnitude scale. It occurred in the afternoon (19:11 GMT, 15:11 local time), and the resulting tsunami affected southern Chile, Hawaii, Japan, the Philippines, eastern New Zealand, southeast Australia, and the Aleutian Islands.

The epicenter was near Lumaco (see map), approximately 570 kilometres (350 mi) south of Santiago, with Valdivia being the most affected city. The tremor caused localised tsunamis that severely battered the Chilean coast, with waves up to 25 metres (82 ft). The main tsunami raced across the Pacific Ocean and devastated Hilo, Hawaii. Waves as high as 10.7 metres (35 ft) were recorded 10,000 kilometres (6,200 mi) from the epicenter, and as far away as Japan and the Philippines.

The death toll and monetary losses arising from such a widespread disaster are not certain.[4] Various estimates of the total number of fatalities from the earthquake and tsunamis have been published, with the United States Geological Survey citing studies with figures of 2,231, 3,000, or 5,700 killed[5] and another source uses an estimate of 6,000 dead.[3] Different sources have estimated the monetary cost ranged from US$400 million to 800 million.($3.19 billion to $6.38 billion today, adjusted for inflation).
